Unhappy Apart: A Growing Collection

I was sitting at a cafe, minding my own lovesick business, drinking my coffee and staring into space when I heard, “So Happy Together” by the Turtles, and I winced. My brow furrowed. My hands grabbed my cup tightly and I cried quietly through the entire song, thinking about my ex and how I was the happy one until he dumped me and now I’m a pathetic lump of public tears.

On the way home I started to sing the song, but slowly and with all of the gut stomping pain I was feeling. So, I decided that I wanted to record that song. But I suck at the guitar, and not just a little. I have spent a long time trying to get good at it, and even took lessons, but I’m just not a guitar playing girl. That’s why I asked Facebook to help me out. Come up with your own sad versions of the song. Let’s come up with something golden. Before 24 hours was up, I had five versions. I am hoping to get even more.

I’ll be posting versions as they come in. Feel free to send me yours.

Caitlin Oliver-Gans This version is by my wonderful, brilliant cousin Caitlin. She came up with it in ten minutes and we’ll be working on it even more. Love it.

My Dad & Brother Ken & Bill Fitzimmons, as recorded for my cousin Jen’s wedding. They decided to speed it up because it sounded sad, but that’s perfect for this project.

NOTE: Looking for animators willing to create videos for versions as they come in. Or! If you create your own version and want to record video of yourself singing it, go for it.

Happy Together (with Nikol) Travis Fischbach, who I had the pleasure of meeting over Skype while talking to him and his dorm-mates, pulled the audio I recorded with my iPhone and created this version.

This version by writer, musician, producer and dear friend Matthew Selznick.

HOLY HELL! Happy Together (Leeds) Scott C Leeds composed and sang this. It very well be my new favorite song.
